I ruined my hair right before Christmas!! How I’m fixing it on a budget…

Adventures, hair products, Natural products

Right before Christmas, to save money, I decided to do my own roots. I bought the bleach and toner and had a friend help me. It HAD to be perfect for Christmas! Well, the bleach got put on more than just the roots and I ended up with a white, dry mess!! Crunch Crunch is the sound it made just getting a comb through it! A few pieces broke right off! My guy flat out said he didn’t like it, it was “too white”. His co-workers said they didn’t like it too. Devastated! I bought some golden blonde toner and tried to darken it a bit. It did nothing, like absolutely nothing!! Tears and more tears later I headed to the salon…

I had stripped my hair down so much that I could only go darker without damaging it further! Darker??!! I love my blonde hair and I had to part with it. So a reddish brown color was put on my hair. It had to be reddish or it would turn green! The color isn’t bad, and it’s close to my natural but I miss my blonde!! I also had to get 3 inches of hair cut off!! It doesn’t look bad, I’ve had dark hair most of my life, but I want my blonde back so I better get this mess healthy again…

First of all, that gross crunchy damaged stuff needed to be cut off. Now that it’s dark (sob sob) I am leaving the color the hell alone for at least 1 month. At night I absolutely douse my hair with a mixture of coconut oil and castor oil. Castor oil is a carrier oil that helps the coconut oil penetrate better. Moisture is key! It isn’t pretty and I look crazy with my wet hair in shower cap all night, but it’s working, no more crunch sound and I have some shine back. I use a protein mask twice a week and again, leave it on as long as possible! The key is to alternate moisture and protein. Too much protein, and it will get brittle all over again. Olive oil also works to moisturize overnight with. It’s thick and my hair smells like a salad, but again it’s working!! I use a thick hair mask in the shower daily and only shampoo once a week…

It’s been about 3 weeks and my hair looks and feels like hair again! I didn’t buy a ton of expensive deep conditoners, just used cheap oils from my kitchen!! I’m going to keep at this for another few weeks and then, highlights!! I will be blonde again, and once I am, I am never never messing with it at home again!!

If you happen to do this to your self, I hope this helps! Any tips? Share!!

Get sexier with Apple Cider Vinegar

Natural products, Skin care

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you’ve heard all the buzz about apple cider vinegar. There are so many ways to use acv!! Apple cider vinegar can relieve constipation, fight acne, soothe a sore throat, help sunburn, remove warts, disinfect, neutralize odors and help speed up weight loss!  No one feels sexy when they are constipated, have warts or acne, or smell bad. Here are my favorite recipes that I can personally  vouch for…

Apple cider vinegar can help you lose weight because it has acetic acid. It detoxes your liver, reduces heartburn and helps your body combat candida. Here are two of the best recipes I have found.

Dr. Oz’s Swimsuit slimdown drink-

1 cup of grapefruit juice

2 tsp apple cider vinegar

1 tsp honey

Drink before each meal.

I have personally been using this for a week and I have lost 4 lbs.

Morning detox tea-

1 cup warm water

2tbsp apple cider vinegar

2tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp raw honey

1 tsp cinnamon

dash of cayenne

I use this when I really want to jump start my weight loss, it doesn’t taste as good as the first, I find cayenne pepper is not to my liking, but it will speed up your metabolism.

-Apple cider vinegar can help get rid of bad breath-

1/2 tbsp in 1 cup of water

gargle and spit. It actually works and lasts longer than just mouthwash does.I tried it when I was sick with a sore throat and my mouth felt dry and I just knew my breath was less than stellar.

-Get rid of acne-

Just use as a toner and that’s it!!

-If you have a lot of product buildup on your hair, or you just want extra shine-

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 cup of water

rinse after shampooing and condition as usual.

-After a really sweaty workout, you can use acv on a cotton pad and swipe it on your armpits. wait 5 to 10 minutes and then shower as usual.

I will keep trying new recipes and natural remedies.  I’d love to hear what you have tried!! Let me know what you think.

Preparing for out of town guests/ No one likes a stinky house!

cleaning

There’s nothing more exciting than having out of town family or friends staying with you for a few days! It goes without saying that you want to clean your house, but did you know the first things most people notice is what your home smells like and clutter? If your house smells, most people won’t tell you, but they will tell everyone else!! I have a 3 day cleaning plan to ensure your guests are not uncomfortable, and you won’t be embarrassed. Depending on the size of your home and how much time you have, it could take longer or not as long.

Day 1- Remove dust and other allergens

Take books off shelves and dust, pay close attention to picture frames and any corners of the house. Check your staircase and dust between spindals and any shelving.  Vacuum mattresses of guest beds and wash the bedding. Vacuum furniture. Did you know that lavender oil is a natural disinfectant? Mix a few drops in a spray bottle with water and spray mattresses, the couch, anything fabric that can’t be washed.

Day2- Address any clutter and clean bathrooms and floors

Now is the time to remove any clutter. Kids toys, pet toys, books and magazines, ect. Find a place to keep your things or throw away anything you don’t have a place for. This is when I like to make sure my bathrooms are spotless and I wash my floors and any area rugs or bathmats. Go outside and come back in. What does your home smell like? You can remove tough odors with vinegar. It’s a strong smell, but once the vinegar smell dissipates, so does the bad smell. ( this is why I do it at least a day before my guests arrive) I also take out the garbages and wash the inside of my garbage cans. Address any pet odors, wash dog or cat beds. Give the dog a bath. Change any air fresheners.

Day3- Kitchen, laundry, vacuum and touch ups

On day 3 I wash all towels. I clean my kitchen last because it gets used so much. Last night’s dinner may have left some stains on your stovetop, floor or kitchen cabinets. No one likes strong odors of last night’s dinner!! I vacuum all carpeted areas and furniture again. I check bathrooms for marks on mirrors or any toilet bowl cleaning that may be needed. Make sure your guests have access to clean towels, extra blankets, sunscreen and bug spray as needed and I think it is a nice touch to provide soap and shampoo and conditioner in the guest bathroom in case they forgot them. I also have disposable razors and new toothbrushes in the cabinet.

I hope you find this helpful
