How I lost 6 lbs in one week…

addictions, dieting, eating disorders, fitness, goals, mental health, relationships

So for the past couple weeks, we have been moving and for a while did not have a refrigerator or stove, which meant lots of fast food and eating at restaurants. I gained a little weight, my clothes still fit, but I could tell and was not very happy with the way I looked. It may not be healthy but my self esteem is very much tied up in my weight and clothing size!  I once had a meltdown in a dressing room because I needed to go up a size, I’m talking full sobbing! ( I know THE HORROR!)

I have a full time job now and an hour commute, plus we are moving, so I have not been able to workout as much as I would like, but I have been walking as much as possible during the day and lifting heavy boxes into the house, so I’m hoping that counts. Lifting several heavy boxes and helping to move appliances has to burn calories!! Full disclosure, I have struggled with eating disorders off and on since Jr. High. I’m happy and healthy right now, and my guy says I look fantastic and am thin, I however think there is room for improvement…always have, always will….that’s kind of how that sort of thing works..Sweetheart that he is, he will NOT let me skip meals, ever!!

Here is how I lost 6 lbs. in one week without starving or purging… We went grocery shopping once we got a refrigerator and bought fruit, chicken ,steak and vegetables. Everyday for breakfast I had either half a grapefruit or a small amount of cottage cheese. For lunch a small portion of chicken or steak, grilled and some brown rice, Then walked around a store for my whole lunch hour at a fast pace, for dinner, the same chicken or steak , or fish with mushrooms. I also bought Purely Inspired Garcinia Cambogia. You take 3 pills before your 2 biggest meals and it is supposed to help you lose weight faster!

I’ve been taking the Garcinia Cambogia for a week and it helps me feel less hungry and so I am eating better and less! It does not give me a jittery feeling, although I can drink coffee all day long and not get that, so I guess I am not sensitive to caffeine.I got it for less than 10 dollars at walmart, and I think it’s working well!! My jeans are roomy in the waist again and my xs shirts are roomy too! I may be a total mess, but at least I don’t need to buy new, bigger pants! No meltdowns for me!

Any tips or tricks for me? Share!!

The broke girls guide to working out

fitness, goals, happy, saving money

Summer is right around the corner and most of us want to look good in our summer clothes. It’s warm year round where I live so it’s good I really enjoy exercising! I prefer to workout at home and subscribe to Beachbody on demand and Les Mills on demand and Pilates  Anytime. I have also used The Daily Burn but cancelled that after a year since I had done every program and was no longer challenged. I’m very happy with these, but it can get expensive. I have a roku so I can get the workouts on my tv.

Just a few days ago, while I was getting my roots done, My hairstylist told me that YouTube has great workouts and they are free!! She is very fit! By the way, my hairstylist is truly amazing! She took me from very dark brown to almost platinum blonde in 1 day with very little damage. I only had to cut off 2 inches, which considering what I had done to my hair, was not much! If you need a hairstylist and live in the south, email me and will you give you her number if we live close by… Anyways, I’m always looking to change it up, and to see changes it is important to switch up your workouts. I decided to check out YouTube, and they literally have hundreds of workouts to choose from!! There really is something for everyone. I absolutely loved it. I’m super Obsessed!

I have some very specific goals for myself, which is what helps me stay motivated to workout even when I don’t feel like it. I want six pack abs, and to build some muscle and definition to my arms. I have the kind of body type that doesn’t build muscle easily so I really have to work for it. If I don’t set goals, I would give up because achieving that goal is not easy! But I know I can do it. I can do hard things is kind of my mantra, you can use it if you like. Once I achieve that goal, I need to set another and just want it bad enough to work hard for it!

The workouts they have very in length so today I did a 20 minute weights workout, which since I am trying to lift heavier weights was long enough. Then I did a 30 min. HIIT workout ( which is high interval intensity training) and I followed that with Pilates. I was so excited about all my options I wanted to do more, but figured I should stop there so I wasn’t too sore to workout tomorrow. Having trouble lowering yourself onto the toilet is not fun!

They have beginner workouts, intermediate and advanced in varying lengths so I think it really would be suitable for anyone at any level no matter what your goals are! The best thing is that it is also free and new workouts are being added everyday. I’m considering cancelling my subscriptions to the other channels, which would save me quite a lot of money.  Of course you can walk, run, or bike outside for free as well, but it was a great surprise to me to have all these other free options!! So now there are no excuses!!

Do you have any great workouts or workout advice??

I thought yoga wasn’t my thing, but now I love it!!

Adventures, fitness, happy

A few years back, I tried a yoga workout dvd and it was not my thing. It was sooo slow. It was the longest 20 minutes of my entire life! I found it boring and not at all challenging. Why does everyone seem to love such a dull boring workout? I will never get that time back!! Worst $15.00 I ever spent! Since then, whenever a friend invited me to take a yoga class, I would decline because yoga was not for me.

I like high energy workouts that leave me drenched in sweat!! I really like to feel challenged. For years, all I would do was high intensity cardio and weights. Then I had the idea to try yoga again as a cool down from my other workouts. I think I read an article on the benefits in Self magazine. I found out that there are different types of yoga, and some are faster paced, or more difficult. Now I really like it!! That’s right, I really enjoy yoga!! Doing yoga to cool down after my workouts helps me be less sore!! I have more flexibility and balance. I also sometimes just do yoga! So I should not have judged a type of workout by one bad dvd!

I learned something very important, sometimes you need to try something more than once to determine if it is for you or not. Not just with fitness, but everything. I have started trying foods I didn’t like as a kid. Some I still don’t like, but some I really don’t mind now. I have always stood my ground that I hate carrots!! Raw or cooked, I don’t like them. The other day, I had something with carrots in it, I had a few and they weren’t so bad after all…

I hope you try something new, or retry something today!!

Six pack abs by summer

fitness

I am determined to get six pack abs by summer. I already work out about 6 days a week and have good nutrition most of the time, ( I love pizza ) but while my stomach is usually flat, aside from occasional bloating,( being a girl sucks in that way) i do not have the definition i want. I’ve done my research, and to get that definition, I need to really watch my portions, make healthy food choices and change up my workouts. Abs are made in the kitchen as they say.

The workouts- I’m currently doing the Core de force workout on beachbody on demand. It’s like a kickboxing workout. It’s tough but doable and focuses on cardio and core training. By the end, I am a super gross, sweaty mess!! I also make sure to do some additional weight training and push ups. Then I’m doing pilates, yoga, or barre method to cool down with. Just because they don’t bring the sweat, they are no joke!

The diet-After working out, I shower and have either half a grapefruit or greek yogurt for breakfast. I am not a breakfast person and am usually not hungry, but I know I have to eat something. I also drink a ton of water! Usually 30 to 60oz. during my workout and then I fill up another 30oz. bottle and drink it throughout the day usually refilling at least once more. For lunch, I typically have an apple, strawberries, mushrooms, or a tomato with balsamic vinegar. For dinner I have either chicken or fish with a side of vegetables. There are lots of healthy recipes to keep it from getting boring!! Cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, stir fry, salmon and spinach, chicken with zucchini and summer squash, spaghetti squash, just to name a few. If you’re truly hungry, eating a few more vegetables is totally okay.

I wish I could just eat pizza everyday and have a six pack, but I can’t. To quote Radiohead”I don’t care if it hurts. I want to have control. I want a perfect body. I want a perfect soul.”

By May, I will have a six pack abs!!! I plan to keep at it. It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle!! This is going to be my year!!

Do you have any shape up secrets??
