The Playlist to my life

Uncategorized

Ever since I was little, I would spend hours in my room listening to the radio. I would make my own mix tapes by taping songs off the radio with a blank cassette tape. I would watch mtv in the morning before school, after school, any time i had the chance. In first grade my favorite band was Gun’s N Roses. My walls were covered with posters of Axl Rose and Slash.

In forth grade I was obsessed with Metallica. Enter Sandman was played on repeat while i did my homework and spent time drawing. Then, when I was in fifth grade, Nirvana caught my eye on mtv. I was obsessed! Kurt and Courtney were the coolest couple ever. While my friends had subscriptions to YM, Teen Magazine and the like, I was only interested in Rolling Stone.

I has my first kiss at the roller rink. Cum on feel the noise by Quiet Riot was playing. The roller rink didn’t exactly have the newest, coolest playlist.Every time I hear that song, I remember being completely ambushed by a thirteen year old boys tongue!

My first heartbreak was spent playing Fiona Apple and Bush in my room writing bad poetry. The first party I went to had Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground on the radio frequently. When I hear that song, I think of my friends from freshman year.

I would spend all my birthday money, babysitting money, saved up lunch money on cd’s and band t-shirts. David Bowie’s scary monsters album, Rage Against the Machine, Prodigy,Marilyn Manson, Korn,Cheap Trick, The Ramones,Beastie Boys, Sublime,Pantera,Slipknot,Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, Hole and many more were the soundtrack to High School. Whenever I hear Hole’s Celebrity Skin, I think of sitting in my high school best friend’s suburban after school. That song pops into my head every time I change my hair.

In 2006 my daughter was born. I was listening to My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria, the Used, and Pennywise at the time. Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake was all over the radio. I would spend time on my Myspace playlist looking for new and exciting songs to add. When I met my current husband, he fixed my computer and I had left a My Chemical Romance cd in it.

In 2015, I got married by Elvis in Las Vegas. Fool’s Rush In by Elvis was playing while I walked down the isle.I listened to Arctic Monkeys, Etta James and Amy Winehouse while I got ready. It was the best day ever!!

I have Amazon music  and satellite radio now. I can download any song I want. I still have all the band t-shirts and the songs for my favorite memories. My taste in music is always changing and evolving. I have a playlist for everything, when I’m sad, when I’m mad, cleaning the house, and dancing it out. I have spent a lot of time making them. Some songs take me back, some push me forward. Current most played songs are: Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie, Blood in the cut by K.Flay, Tears dry on their own by Amy Winehouse,Celebrity Skin by Hole, The man who sold the world by David Bowie, Y Control by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Doses and Mimosas by Cherb.  But that’s just this week.

What’s your playlist?

  1. Music can move the soul. There are artist that not only make inspirational music, but also comtruibes to community groups by making a stand that is relatable or relivent to that group.

For instance I have always love the musical stylings of P!NK, I also love her views on being very individual and respecting others while also standing up for being yourself.

P!NK and so many other artist make this impression. So weather you have a music list that helps you workout, get through a brake up, remind you of presious memories or relates to life events. The collbration of music that makes up an individual life’s mixtape is much to be desired and hopefully never duplicated.

    Keep being you.
